Coaching in Padel: An Art, a Privilege, and a Partnership

By Andi Neugarten-Maio-Chief Padel Addict August 9, 2025

I consider myself incredibly lucky to live in Miami, where some of the best coaching talent in the sport is right at my fingertips. I never take that for granted. I show up to my lessons ready to work, focused, eager, and open. I want more. I crave feedback. I listen carefully, write down what I’m told, review my notes, and do everything I can to implement the guidance into my game. This isn’t passive learning, this is an active, ongoing partnership.

That’s what makes coaching so powerful: it’s a two-way relationship. My job is to show up with intention and commitment. Their job is to meet me there, with insight, structure, and belief in what’s possible. When that chemistry is right, it’s magic.

Over the course of my padel journey, I’ve worked with many coaches, each with their own strengths, energy, and way of communicating. And that’s one of the things I’ve come to understand deeply: coaching isn’t just about what is being taught, it’s about how and when it’s delivered that makes the difference.

Sometimes, you hear the same piece of advice from five different coaches, but it only resonates the sixth time, because you’re finally ready to hear it. That’s why coaching style matters so much. The right coach doesn’t just teach, they connect. They read the moment. They reach you.

As a woman, I’ve also learned that I benefit most from a mix of male and female coaches. Each brings a unique lens, and while I have a head coach who oversees my development and growth, I have immense respect and appreciation for every single person who’s contributed to my journey. Their influence-big or small-has left a mark on my game and on me.

Coaching in padel is an art that goes far beyond technique. It’s about empathy, adaptability, and mutual trust. It’s about recognizing the mental, emotional, and physical layers of growth. The best coaches strike that perfect balance between pushing you outside your comfort zone while still making you feel supported and seen.

Motivation plays a huge role too. Some coaches light that fire directly. Others guide you to find it yourself. Either way, the best coaches don’t just improve your backhand or your bandeja, they help you evolve as an athlete and as a person.

That’s why I believe coaching is not just a profession, it’s a calling. It requires heart, intuition, and a genuine investment in someone else’s progress. I’m so grateful to be surrounded by coaches who embody that every single day.

A special mention to some of those who continue to shape and challenge me:
Guga, Diego, Jordi, Marcello, Nico, Marcello, Ángel, Pablo, Julien, Juani.
Thank you for believing in me, and for showing up just as committed to my growth as I am.
